This is a great place to appreciate the incredible beauty of New Zealand’s Central South Island. You will be captivated by rugged mountains, rivers and lakes, sunny crisp air and crystal clear waters.
Coombes Cottage is the ideal base to enjoy this spectacular environment. So prepare to relax, wine and dine, and perhaps embark on a few new adventures.
A tasty continental breakfast is available at $12.50 per person. We use homemade, nutritious products wherever possible and will deliver this to your room in the evening.
We also invite you to dine with us, if you wish, for a relaxed meal with warm conversation - nibbles, main and dessert with a glass of wine. ( $35pp )
Experience Central Otago
Coombes Cottage is handy to the famous Otago Central Rail Trail. We are happy to ferry guests to or from Lauder or Oturehua, on the main Rail Trail route.
Should you wish to add stargazing to your relaxation there's the option of reclining in the private outdoor spa, ideal for muscles tired from cycling.
There are bicycles and helmets available for hire at $20 per day or $10 for a half day. Its a nice ride to the charming Vulcan Hotel where you can sample a pint - or two.
Or just relax on the spacious veranda and enjoy the ever-changing views over the Hawdun Range.
Charm and comfort
This historic mud brick cottage has been sensitively restored to a high standard, and befitting its pioneer heritage the cottage's living area is timber lined giving a warm cosy feel, with a stunning ceiling of macrocapa, one of the most eco-friendly timbers New Zealand produces.
The Cottage includes a large studio-type room with queen size bed (extra bed available), and comfortable vintage lounge and dining furniture.
Also a new charming ensuite bathroom with wet area shower, where you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the deep claw foot bath.
The cottage is fully self contained, and ideal for self catering. The kitchen includes a benchtop oven, microwave, toaster, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, with complimentary tea, coffee sugar etc. And there is a BBQ.
